today the boy scouts of america decided to reaffirm their ban on the inclusion of nonheterosexual members

meanwhile, a hundred years of girl scouting continues to encourage girls to support each other no matter what and lend a hand to their community. from what google news tells me this week: in maryland, one troop has voiced their concerns about puppy mill problems throughout the country; in boston, one troop volunteers its services to a home for women recovering from drug and alcohol abuse; in nevada, one girl has been inspired by her summer camp experience to train in archery for the 2016 olympics.

and you’ll note nobody has ever asked the president of the united states his favorite popcorn flavor.

BUY GIRL SCOUT COOKIES, THEY KEEP THE GIRL SCOUTS INDEPENDENT FROM RELIGIOUS CONTROL AND ALSO WONDERFUL

also DON’T buy the Nestle Crunch bars that are GS cookie flavored. Not a single cent of the proceeds goes to GSUSA. The initial batch was auctioned and those proceeds went to GS of Los Angeles (which is not ideal but it’s better than nothing), but the bars they’re selling at the stores do not give ANY money to Girl Scouting. Hold out for cookie season early next fall. Or buy the Edy’s ice cream, because proceeds from that DOES go to GSUSA.

Also, the Edy’s Girl Scout cookies ice cream is awesome.

Girl Scouts of America for the win. Seriously, my troop taught me to recognize edible plants, build a fire, cook a balanced dinner and balance a checkbook, all while showing me how to lend my time to both my troop and my community. Girl Scouts of America every day and twice on Sunday. 

Few things I regret more than not joining my cousin in the scouts. She taught me what she learned, but it just wasn’t the same.

Knowing what I know now, I’m buying all the cookies next fall. Not just because they are delicious and I could eat a whole sleeve of Thin Mints like they were nothing (I don’t….I just know I could), but also because of the good they do for girls everywhere.
